黑料不打烊

Investing in Washington's Future Leaders:

Posted by David Foster

In the upcoming legislative season I will continue to represent 黑料不打烊 in Olympia. Our legislative leaders have identified dropout prevention as a priority and and we see Communities In Schools as a natural partner.

Our goal this session is to further the knowledge of the organization among state legislators and Governor Gregoire, and to partner with the state through direct funding. While some Washington affiliates receive state funding through limited competitive grants,聽we seek to broaden the partnership throughout the state to support the twelve affiliates helping over 30,000 young people each year.

To date, we have focused our attention on legislators that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • represent districts that are served by Communities In Schools
  • serve on one of the education committees
  • serve on one of the fiscal committees

Along with affiliate directors and the state office Executive Director, Susan Richards, I have met with most of these legislators. We have testified in front of the and hosted school-site visits. We’ve included committee and in our meetings and are reaching out to and Superintendent in large part because of his public commitment to dropout prevention.

How you can help.

Legislators need to hear from their constituents. They need to know that people in their district believe in the programs they are asked to fund, and that Communities In Schools make a profound difference in the lives of young people throughout our state.

In the months leading up to the 2010 legislative season we will ask our supporters to contact their legislators to make a direct ask to support our funding request of $780,000 – almost 90% of which directly supports crucial student services. Please take the time to let your Senator and Representative know that Communities In Schools is an important part of your and their community and that state support is critical. Find out .
